ISCA is the leading body that ensures all infrastructure in Australia delivers social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits.
The award recognised the Acciona Samsung Bouygues Joint Venture's development of a world first shotcrete application process for the lining of the M4-M5 Link Tunnels in Sydney. This process included creating an innovative shotcrete design mix, through the introduction of previously unused steel fibres to achieve a strict performance criterion for tunnel construction, as well as improving techniques to apply shotcrete to the tunnel walls to reduce rebounding.
The development of the high-performance shotcrete showcased what can be achieved when construction and design teams collaborate with the suppliers of materials during the early stages of a project. By validating the research, development and application in a real-world project, a new product has been produced that has real world benefits.
The legacy of this high-performance shotcrete will see it become the ‘go to’ product for future road tunnel projects that require shotcrete for a tunnel lining. Congratulations to the team for this outstanding recognition.
