The "Hazard and Rehearsal Academy" training centre opened its doors last month on the Align HS2 project.
Daniel ALTIER, the Align Project Director sponsored this initiative that was delivered by Neil HANCOX, Align Health and Safety Director and his team. This academy is a learning and education initiative aimed at all personnel working on site including apprentices, trainees, and experienced staff alike. Located at the heart of Align’s South Portal site, it features a number of realistic staged scenarios that enable participants to identify hazards and discuss how they can be addressed and avoided.

The aim is to provide realistic hands-on experience of the hazards operatives are likely to encounter. By helping them to understand the causes, it ensures they are prepared to anticipate and deal with any hazardous situations, while remaining in a safe and secure environment.

The scenarios focus on the 5 Major Risks that are responsible for over 80% of deaths and serious injuries: lifting, falls from height, people-vehicle interface, stored dangerous energy and stability.
The 13 Life Saving Rules are also integrated into the facility.

Now as we go through the program, no doubt there’ll be new lessons learned and they can be incorporated into the exhibits. […] What we’ve got here far outweighs my expectations, and I’m so proud of the collaboration with the safety teams and the various subcontractors, the supply chain and HS2. It’s a fantastic facility.
