The solar farm spans 450 hectares and accommodates a large-scale solar PV system utilising single-axis tracking, which harnesses the highest amount of solar irradiance as the panels track the sun’s movement east to west each day.
The annual energy yield of the ground mounted panels installed at the solar farm will generate 395GWh, which is enough to meet the energy needs of over 65,000 homes. Suntop created economic benefits to the local region through employment opportunities with extensive local area recruitment for local residential workers; promoted regional development through the use of local businesses and suppliers; and generated significant cashflow to the local economy from the construction, housing, and general supply to the project.
Suntop set a new standard for Bouygues Construction Australia’s Indigenous engagement work moving forward. The project achieved a peak of 14% Indigenous employment on the project with an average of 9% throughout the duration, exceeding the State’s 2.5% benchmark. The project team established and maintained close contact with Wellington Local Aboriginal Lands Council (WLALC); established a mentoring program to benefit young Indigenous workers; hosted a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony performed by Local Wiradjuri Elders and Community; and ran numerous Yarning Circles, allowing Indigenous workers to gather and talk. The project also partnered with five Supply Nation Certified subcontractors and engaged with a number of other Indigenous suppliers and stakeholders to involve the local Indigenous community in the project’s success.
