DEGES, Germany’s Motorway Authority, are currently building the first of the two 802m-long bridges (380m main span). The second one will then be built once the existing bridge has been dismantled, to allow for an eight-lane expansion of the major A40 Autobahn link.
The two bridges have been designed by Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner. DEGES awarded the bridge construction to the main contractor joint-venture of MCE and Hochtief.
VSL was awarded the supply and installation of the stay-cables, as well as the launching of the side-span deck-segments and the lifting of the main-span segments. Each bridge will be equipped with 80 stay cables (1700 tons of strands in total).
The construction works started in 2020, the first bridge should open in 2023. The entire project, including the demolition of the old bridge and the construction of the highway expansion, are scheduled for completion by 2026.
