On 5 October, phase 3A of the metro line 3 worksite in Cairo was successfully delivered! Within the scope of the project for extending line 3 of the Cairo metro, the consortium of which Bouygues Travaux Publics is part, alongside its partners VCGP, ORASCOM and ARABCO, delivered phase 3A to its client NAT (National Authority for Tunnels).
Cairo inhabitants can now travel on the section linking Attaba station with Kit Kat station, approximately a 4-kilometre underground trip, with 4 additional stations thrown in.
On 6 October, Bouygues Travaux Publics and VSL launched their original and innovative new mobility program dedicated to young talents - the "Bridges Program". Twenty members of staff were selected to take part in this venture, which will give them the opportunity for double international mobility for 2 years.
On 10 October, the two TBMs on the HS2 worksite, in the United Kingdom, Florence and Cecilia, completed more than 6 kilometres of tunnelling and crossed the second ventilation shaft, near the village of Chalfont St Giles. This 46-m deep ventilation shaft is one of the four which ventilate and ensure emergency access to the two 16-km long tunnels. A fifth shaft will provide just emergency tunnel access. Once completed, the shaft will be covered by a headhouse designed to resemble local farm buildings.
On 15 October, the consortium made up by Bouygues Travaux Publics, Saipem and Boskalis completed installation of the 71 foundations making up the base for the wind turbines of the Fécamp offshore wind farm.
Constructed by Bouygues Travaux Publics teams on the Bougainville quay at Le Havre, the gravity-based foundations weighing 5,000 tonnes each and measuring from 48 to 54 metres in height, were then successfully transferred to sea by three barges, before being put in place on the sea bed by the crane vessel Sleipnir of Heerema Marine Contractors, operating for Saipem, and were then ballasted by Boskalis. The 71 GBS structures are now offshore of Fécamp and ready to take their turbine masts.
On 27 October, the Horizon consortium, of which Bouygues Travaux Publics is the representative, completed a new milestone in the Créteil l’Echat station, on batch T2A of line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express. Teams worked on concreting the final block of the technical floor slab. The civil engineering teams relayed each other from 5am to 9pm to complete this impressive operation, with a total 1,177 m3 of concrete poured!
On 4 November, teams on batch T3A of line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express completed earthworks for the raft foundation of the Pont de Sèvres station. All spoil was removed from a landing stage and loaded directly onto barges. This provisional platform enabled excavated material to be removed by waterway, a more environmentally-friendly mode of transport which also reduces disturbance and pollution for local residents.
On 11 November, teams on batch T3A of line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express completed a new stage with the final installation of pillars and prefabricated elements making up the future platforms of the box at the Issy RER station. The platforms needed 117 cast pillars and 700 prefabricated elements, including 250 precast double walls, 168 beams and 282 prestressed floor plates.
On 16 November, TBM Chloé, operated by our teams on the Pawtucket tunnel worksite in the USA, began digging. With a diameter of 10.3 metres and 105 metres in length, this dual-mode earth pressure balance open-face TBM will put a total of 1,722 rings in place. Along the Seekonk River it will be creating a 3.5-km long tunnel which will eventually store the region’s rainwater, as well as waste and industrial waters.
In 2022, Dragages Hong Kong and Bouygues Travaux Publics teams dug some 2 kilometres of tunnel on the Trunk Road T2 worksite. Eventually, this tunnel will link the centre and east of Kowloon. The journey between Kai Tak and Lam Tin will be slashed from its current 15 minutes to 3 minutes, since vehicles will be able to use the new undersea tunnel.
During the year, our teams have extracted over 40,000,000 m3 of rare and precious materials from our mines, in Africa. We are currently working on:
• The Gounkoto mine, a gold mine in Mali
• The Tongon mine, a gold mine in the Ivory Coast
• The Tinguilinta mine, a bauxite mine in Guinea
• The Kibali mine, a gold mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
