Bearings are critical elements of bridges, where they provide a load-bearing connection between the deck and piers to suit the forces and displacements to which the structure is subject on an ongoing basis.

The lifecycle of bearings being lower than that of the overall bridge, regular inspection and maintenance operations are necessary.

VSL successfully carried out the replacement of 80 bearings on Bridge N417 in Yuen Long district, within a 3-month period. In this rainy season in Hong Kong, meticulous planning was essential to avoid any delay since the works had to be implemented in dry conditions only.

In the wake of this successful intervention, VSL is eager to take on other challenging operations of that type in the region. In fact, over 300 structures have been identified as requiring bearing replacement works in Hong Kong.
