Quai Vernets will include 1,355 housing units designed for different lifestyles: families, students and seniors. Spaces dedicated to commercial activities, arts and culture and community life will be accessible to all. At the foot of the building, local shops will be created. In addition, 8,000 m² of commercial activities will be partly dedicated to cultural activities, association use and activities linked to the social and solidarity economy. Performance spaces and theatres, meeting and co-working spaces, a crèche, a school and sports amenities will complete the neighbourhood to make it a pleasant place to live.
Whether for the choice of materials, the companies or the techniques used, the new construction site sets out to be exemplary in terms of sustainable development. The construction project aims to meet the highest standards of energy sobriety, and the site will be 100% powered by renewable energy. Quai Vernets is the first neighbourhood in the canton of Geneva to be awarded the Site 2000 Watts label. This label singles out residential areas that manage resources in a sustainable way when constructing and operating buildings. Shared green spaces will be created and 3,000 bicycle parking spaces are planned for 100% soft mobility, with no cars in the area.
Quai Vernets will consist of two-thirds public utility housing and one-third rent-controlled housing (rents set by the Canton of Geneva). More than a neighbourhood, the project aims to promote the concept of “living harmoniously together”, through the diversity and integration of multiple users. The unique, sustainable and innovative character of this new district is the result of cooperation between the companies leading the project (Losinger Marazzi and Pillet SA), the eight contracting clients of the ENSEMBLE team, as well as the State and City of Geneva. This new district meets the Greenlight ambitions of an ambitious development based on customer focus and sustainability.
