Can you describe yourself in a few words and tell us why your profile appealed to us?
I am 36 years old and the proud father of a 3 year old boy. I am curious, hard-working and a handyman. I went from being a journeyman on a building site to a computer technical assistant at Challenger.
Can you tell us a little about your background?
I have a CAP in plastering. Before joining Habitat Residential, I did a lot of different jobs, including working as a sales assistant at Citroën for five years.
I started as a temp at Habitat Residential in September 2018 as a journeyman formworker on the Ile de la Jatte site in Neuilly sur Seine. I signed my permanent contract in December 2018.
At the end of May 2019, I was assigned to the Issy Cœur de Ville site. At the same time, I was diagnosed with major health problems and a year later the verdict came in: I was unable to work on unstable ground. This was a period of great questioning but, being optimistic and persevering, I quickly looked for ways to retrain in another field.
I found a school, an organisation ready to finance me thanks to APAS BTP and I resumed the courses for a year. It was hard because it requires a lot of personal investment and work, but I'm proud to celebrate my Bac+2 diploma in Web and Mobile Web Development in June 2021.
Why did you choose this new path and what does your new job involve?
Since I was a kid I've loved computers. I loved video games. I am passionate about digital technology.
Today I'm in charge of managing the fleet of Habitat Residential's computer tablets that are used on the site. I am also in charge of the formatting and maintenance of the various PowerBI dashboards, a tool that allows all the players on the project to have access to the key data of the site in real time from anywhere.
How were you supported internally?
Marion Lamirault in Human Resources followed me all the way. I think this changeover was also a first for the Human Resources department. We all learned from this experience. Laurent Guesné, the production manager, was also very present, taking my case seriously and looking for internal solutions, and he kept me regularly informed.
What is important for you to underline in this professional reconversion?
I am happy today to be the proof that a radical change of career path is possible. I think that with a lot of motivation and perseverance we can all achieve a goal that seems unattainable at first glance. A few years ago, I would never have thought of going back to school. If you have decided to do it and if you give yourself the means, you will succeed!
We are also lucky enough to work for a large group, which multiplies the possibilities, even if you also have to be patient to wait for the right opportunity.
What is the biggest change for you?
The work is obviously very different, but it is above all the environment that changes from working on a site to working in an office.
How were you welcomed into your new team at headquarters?
At the beginning, I was impressed to be surrounded by and to work with people with diplomas and often very technical language. I was very quickly reassured by all my new colleagues by their benevolence. I would like to thank my new team again for their welcome and their support, which helped me to adapt more quickly and to live well with the change of world.
What is your future professional ambition in the medium or long term?
After 6 months in the Engineering Department, I have been given new assignments. I'm continuing to gain experience thanks to all the people I work with on a daily basis. In the longer term, I would like to develop within my department and in Digital.
